Walkerton Community Foundation
Ten college and university students from the Brockton area received bursaries and scholarships this year from the Walkerton Community Foundation. They include, front row from left, Vanessa Klages of Mildmay, Kristina Ahrens of Cargill, Laura Aubrey, Kathleen Dentinger, Geoff Dentinger, all of Walkerton, Mark Ahrens of Cargill, and April Berry of Walkerton. They are pictured with, back row from left, foundation directors Tim Mancell and Maryanne Buehlow, treasurer Gerry O’Gorman, and president Clayton Gutscher. Missing, students Heather Muir, Nichole Gagnon, and Dionne Schmidt, all of Walkerton. Aubrey and Muir received $1,000 bursaries and the other eight received $800 scholarships. Since 2001 the Foundation has handed out $58,650 to local students who were attending Walkerton schools during the E. coli outbreak of 2000. However, unless donations are received in the coming year, treasurer O’Gorman said this would be the last year for the program.
