Over-caffeinated, over-leftovered, over-slept, yet feeling over-tired, and over-holidayed.
For me, it’s been 10 days of over indulgence in pretty much everything, I’m ready to get back into some sort of normalcy.
Who in their right mind wants to get back to work after a week off? Not many, but my lack of routine has me craving it. It was very nice waking up (almost) every day last week with no plans, no expectations, and no real goals. Just little projects here and there to do. The house was full of food so there was barely any shopping to do. My husband was off work too, so there wasn’t even any lunches to pack, or early morning driveway shoveling. It was just total relaxation.
So what did I do? Relaxed. Then relaxed again. And relaxed some more. I’m surprising myself to say, I’m bored of relaxing.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some accomplishments last week. I?managed to bake 120 dinner rolls to bring to various dinners. We made it to two family Christmases. I?reupholstered an armchair, I steam cleaned my floors, and picked up some more paint chips for the kitchen. Other?“accomplishments” of the week would include watching a season-and-a-half of ‘30 Rock’, finally getting all the way though ‘Bambi’ and fighting off a flu virus in 12 hours, new record! (My excitement about this is further proof that I?need to get back to my routine.)
While I’m so glad I got lots of quality time with lots of family, and with the husband, (I have to be careful how I?word this) I’m not glad it’s over per se, but ready to be back to work (good job Lindsey). And I’m unbelievably happy I don’t have to listen to Christmas music for another 10 months or so.
I’m still getting back into the swing of things, and it took a couple minutes to get my bearings when I sat back down at my desk yesterday, but?I think I am exactly where I belong now.
Routine, to a certain degree, is healthy and necessary. Waking up at 10 a.m. and actually sitting down to a cup or two (or three) of coffee (with Irish cream) is nice, instead of chugging a take-out cup on the way into work, but waking up early with a certain goal in mind makes me feel empowered, confident, or somewhat useful at the very least.
I had a great holiday. I?hope you did too. Happy New Year, Brockton!
