Focus on the Walkerton “Celebration of Schools” attracted former basketball players and alumni to Walkerton District Secondary School on Saturday Jan. 21.
Dozens of players competed in three games that also included the current Raiders boys and girls teams.
As well, a couple hundred alumni walked the halls, many for the last time, after posing in front of the school for a group photo from an airplane.
The school will be vacated and eventually razed this spring as the learning institution moves to the new Walkerton District Community School. The new facility will serve as home for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Celebration Reunion – the event served as a launch for the official “Celebration of Schools” scheduled for Saturday, May 26 and a single day reunion for alumni of Walkerton District Secondary School, Walkerton Public School and Brant Central School.
Website – details for the event can be found on the Website conceived by Kerry Withrow, a retired Brant Central school educator, at www.walkertonschoolsheritage.ca. The site will continuously add historic information and photos, providing a single, public location for archived materials.
Golf Tournament – a reunion golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, morning May 26 at the Walkerton golf course. The tourney is open to alumni of all three schools, including family members and friends, with an emphasis on socializing in a “Texas scramble” format that is welcoming to golfers of all abilities and experience.
Volunteers are currently being sought to assist in planning and details are available from the tournament organizer John Thompson at sstj99@gmail.com or 519-884-4050.
