Water from Lake Rosalind has been cleared to use by the Ministry of the
Environment.
Initial results from water sampling by the MOE on Wednesday, June 30 were
free of blue green algae (cynobacteria). Results received this week show the
samples had only trace levels of microcystins  below the maximum acceptable
level for drinking water.
"We're good to go," said Andrew Barton, Manager, Health Protection with the
Grey Bruce Health Unit. However, he cautions residents to stay viligent in
watching the water for algae blooms.
"I'm a little bit concerned, and so is the MOE, that the blooms appeared so
early in the season," he told The WHT Tuesday morning. "Residents should
continue to exercise caution." Barton said it is very likely that the algae bloom will return this summer.
Residents should inform the MOE if they see indications of an algae bloom
(turquoise or discoloured water, reduced water clarity or detect odours). In
addition, the Ministry of the Environment will conduct routine sampling
throughout the summer.
