One Brockton councillor has announced he will not seek re-election.
In a news release sent out last week, Coun. Tim Mancell said he had “reluctantly decided” to not seek a third term.
“The past seven years have been very fulfilling but I no longer feel the same enthusiasm for the work that I once did plus my priorities have shifted as I am looking forward to more responsibilities in my favourite role as a grandparent,” he wrote.
First elected in 2003 and re-elected in 2006, Mancell said he hopes the legacy of the two administrations will be the “restoration of the integrity, the work ethic nd the transparency that has characterized hese past two terms of Mayor Charlie Bagnato.”
Mancell is also proud of moving the community forward. “We have faced the infamy of our past and we have put Brockton on a future path that can now be envied by many communities of comparable size,” he said, noting in particular, “the rowth of our retail sector, the enhancement of our ecreational opportunities, mprovements in medical care, upgrades in our infrastructure, advancements in waste diversion, new housing starts and the current and nticipated expansion f our ommercial park”.
Mancell said he has enjoyed his time on council and while not always agreeing, they “worked together s a cohesive unit”.
While he may be retiring from public office, Mancell will still be active in the community volunteering on various projects with the Walkerton Rotary Club, Br. 102 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Arthritis Society, and other committees.
“Brockton is a great community but it is everyone’s responsibility to keep it this way,” he said.
