No poverty for this woman of the cloth

If you’ve ever wondered why electricity rates are so expensive, just look at  what energy companies (and the government) are paying for senior management and the pensions for former managers.
A story in The Toronto Star last week details one incredible example of greed. Eleanor Clitheroe, who was dumped as CEO of Hydro One in 2001 for overspending, among other things, made a nice $2.2 million that year. But that wasn’t enough.
She also worked out a sweet deal in her contract that counted three years for every one she worked and bonuses were counted as income when her pension was calculated. In fact, Clitheroe only worked for Hydro One for less than 10 years.
Now she’s suing the government because her pension isn’t big enough. Yup, it seems you just can’t get by on a paltry $25,637 a month – that’s not a typo, it’s $25,637 monthly or just over $300,000 a year. Clitheroe says she should be getting about $8,000 more monthly.
Now the real kicker – Clitheroe is now an ordained Anglican Minister. I guess she’s never read up on the seven deadly sins!
According to The Star, the average Canadian pension in 2005 was $14,800 – a year. This greedy minister gets $11,000 more every month and it’s still not good enough.
She must need the money though, as the story points out, she only gets between $50,000 and $60,000 a year to preach.
And what does she preach – take what you can in life and to hell with the rest of the world?
This is one person who really doesn’t get it. If I were a member of her congregation, I would boycott her and her church.
Hopefully the congregation will get her to see the light.
