The Walkerton Hawks maintained a perfect record throughout the weekend beating the Goderich Sailors and Kincardine Bulldogs by a combined 18 goal effort.
The Hawks only allowed three goals on the weekend.
On Friday Walkerton hosted the Goderich Sailors, drumming them by a final score of 11-1.
Drew Davidson and captain Andy Mitchell reached the scoreboard in the first period.
In the second Eric Lekun scored the first of a three-goal streak in the span of five minutes, while Jordan Turcotte netted two quick ones. Goderich’s Shawn Moore reached the back of the net just over the half-way mark of the game. The Hawks answered that with another two goals to close the period, one by Davidson, the other by Adam Alexander.
The third period was dominated by the Hawks scoring four more goals to make it 11-1. One in particular was a short handed effort made by forwards Dylan Bults and Wendel Cameron as Bults passed cross ice to his centre as he battled hard pushing it into the back of the net. The others were by Tanner Mighton, Lekun, and Haden Campbell.
On Saturday the Bulldogs came into Walkerton for the back end of the weekend homestand. It was more of the same as the final score of this game was 7-2.
There was no scoring throughout the first frame as the Hawks were outshot 15 to 10. However, it was Bulldogs’ Adam Alexander who opened the scoring on a pass from Haden Campbell and Shane Macdonald eight minutes into the second. Dave Mercer answered quickly for the Hawks, tying the game.
The Hawks put a halt to the Bulldogs’ attempts, as they scored the next four unanswered goals scored by Mitchell, Macdonald, Thomson, and Bults assisted by Cameron.
Mitchell would open the third, scoring two minutes in on the powerplay, assisted by Lekun and Campbell.
Kincardine scored again but Jordan Turcotte notched another on the powerplay late in the game on quick passes from Campbell and Mitchell.
The Hawks combined to go seven-for-11 on the powerplay this weekend, proving it to be a major attribute to their season’s success.
The Hawks only have one game on the schedule this weekend on Friday at 8:30 p.m. against the Wingham Ironmen at the Walkerton Community Centre.
